     These words you read here came one Sunday morning when pondering an introduction to our new website... www.oschamber.com .  The objectives of the site are to promote the value and fraternity of the Owen Sound Chamber of Commerce while giving it some purpose to the rest of you who live here.Although at the moment I sit at my computer alone, I also echo the thoughts and intentions of others who donate their time to helping the Chamber fulfill its mandate.
     Our economic well-being comes, in no small way, from Chamber members.  The Chamber is closing in on 600 partner businesses but this is the 'tip of the iceberg.'  There are more than five thousand people who work in these businesses.That represents a substantial chunk of property and income and every other tax that is loaded on us.I also can't begin to calculate how many hours of volunteer time, financial donation and overall community support these businesses and their employees bring to bear.
     While it has value for business to unite in the alliance of the Chamber, it is even more vital that we support them. It goes without saying that members deserve to earn a livelihood...but their continued growth and well-being in business is vital. It is an essential ingredient in economic prosperity and in the 'community' we enjoy the benefit of living in. As consumers, we are allowed to weigh value for price, but remember that member businesses support so much more than bank accounts and bill payments.They help build life here so doing business with them is another way of helping yourself.
