Fiscal Policy:
• Monitor the effectiveness of Budget 2009 to stimulate the economy, and restore consumer and business confi dence.
• Ensure that Ottawa does not return to long-term structural defi cits.
• Encourage provinces and territories that levy retail sales taxes to harmonize with the GST to reduce the cost of capital, promote investment and improve productivity.
• Press the provinces to eliminate the remaining provincial capital taxes.
• Provide additional support for Canadian credit markets, as needs arise, by utilizing all tools at the government's disposal.
Domestic issues:
• Deal with climate change and clean air while maintaining a strong economy and ensuring that it's consistent with Canada's overall energy strategy.
• Develop an energy strategy that supports a competitive business environment and includes environmentally-sound, cost-effective uses of all available economic energy sources.
• Develop a multi-modal national transportation strategy for Canada as wll as a national infrastructure strategy, including gateway, border and communications infrastructure.
• Promote e-business solutions for SME's and develop an e-commerce strategy.
• Remove barriers to internal trade in Canada, including the removal of barriers to labour mobility.
• Achieve the benefi ts of "Smart Regulation".
• Ensure Competition Law amendments meet the needs of Canadian business and key recommendations from the Competition Policy Review Panel are implemented, such as relaxing foreign investment thresholds.
• Ensure the Immigration system effectively helps Canada meet its skilled resources needs.
